Outreach

Pie Day is the Friday prior to Peasant Market. A crew of parishioners gather in the basement kitchen to assemble over 100 pies to be sold at Peasant Market. All profits go towards outreach programs.

Saint Stephens’s Outreach activities further the mission of the church by engaging in meaningful Christian service locally and globally. Profits from our signature fundraiser Peasant Market help fund our food ministries. We also provide Monday Community Lunches, Bag Lunches, and 3 Community Suppers annually. All of these programs are interfaith efforts that connect us to the wider community of faith in the Middlebury area; they increase the impact of what we can all do together, as a parish and a local community.

Since 1947, the people of St. Stephen’s have held Peasant Market for the benefit of the Addison County community. Held annually in July under outdoor tents, Peasant Market is a large, day-long “flea market” with items for sale that are donated by church and community members. Profits of Peasant Market are given back to worthy charitable projects selected through the Saint Stephens Peasant Market Grants program. For more information about grants contact Lonnie Fisher.

Peasant Market 2020 has been canceled.  The safety of our community must come first as we adhere to Governor Scott’s guidelines regarding COVID-19. Looking ahead, Liz Cleveland and Linda Horn will be at the helm for Peasant Market 2021.

Saint Stephens is actively seeking people interested in outreach to join us! Please visit our additional pages on individual and seasonal outreach programs. The Outreach Committee meets once a month. The names of parishioners who organize outreach programs can be found in Saint Stephens’s contact list. Like the Outreach Committee, these parishioners would welcome hearing from you.

We recognize Christ in ourselves and in all others; we welcome and support all people with love and compassion.
