Since 1947, the people of St. Stephen’s have joined together to offer PEASANT MARKET to the Addison County community. We affectionately call the event “The Miracle On The Green”!

Peasant Volunteers

Peasant Volunteers

Peasant Market is our signature event and our largest outreach project. It is normally held on the Saturday after the Fourth of July, but this year’s Peasant Market will be on Saturday, July 31st from 9 am-1 pm. This festival has become a well-known tradition and an outdoor community event for the whole family.

As our community is just reemerging from COVID restrictions, Peasant Market will be a bit smaller than usual and every booth will be outside. This will ensure a safe and fun environment for all.

There will be fabulous deals on jewelry, toys, sporting goods, garden accessories, plants, household goods, linens, antiques, and collectibles. Sorry, no books or clothing this year.

Another change, this year all donations are from, or channeled through, our church members.

We will be offering fresh squeezed lemonade, homemade baked goods and our wonderful fruit pies. We bake all day with 2 shifts of volunteers to create our famous fruit pies!

The Peace Canoe

The “Peace Canoe” is an interesting member of the Chesapeake Light Craft fleet. Call it a canoe, a pirogue, a bateau, or whatever you like---the Peace Canoe is good basic transportation.

She was built from a CLC kit about 7 years ago by the St. Stephen’s Boatwrights , 18’ long, 4’ wide and fully loaded draws about 4 inches of water. With her wide flat bottom she is stable enough to stand carefully amid ships and fish.

Oar locks and oars have been added. With two paddlers and a rower she will be very fast!

This link will take you to a Wooden boat Magazine article which shows the detailed construction of a Peace Canoe.
